ANZMAC Advice to applicants from previous winners

Su Mon Wong - 2002 winner

Ensure that your application demonstrates a deep commitment to teaching and learning through an espoused Teaching & Learning philosophy or approach.

Key aspects in my experience include:

  1. demonstrating theory and practice in unison - synergistically
  2. the recognition that learning and development is a life-long process that requires your full attention
  3. the need to take students from basic understanding to a thorough understanding; for example from dependency in 1st year to independence by 3rd year and also in post graduate
  4. changing the thinking and thus impact on the lives of your students takes a special approach to teaching delivery that goes beyond the norm to involve thoughtful, imaginative and innovative techniques
  5. even during difficult times - ensuring you maintain consistency, uniformity and equity and of course "detail"
  6. earning the title of "expert" by having this award bestowed upon you, not by determining this as a right of ownership yourself.
